2017 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING AND TECHNICAL CONFERENCE
Joint meeting of CSBE/SCGAB with CIGR Section VI Bioprocesses
(Postharvest Technology and Process Engineering)

Canad Inns Polo Park
Winnipeg, MB
August 6-10, 2017

On behalf of the Local Arrangements Committee, I would like to provide an update on preparations for the 2017 joint meeting of CSBE/SCGAB with CIGR Section VI Bioprocesses which will be held at Canad Inns Polo Park in Winnipeg, MB from August 6-10th, 2017. By partnering with CIGR, we are anticipating an international audience of up to 500 attendees.

The Call for Abstracts has been circulated with abstracts due by February 1, 2017. Each of the first three days of the conference will feature invited speakers, concurrent technical sessions and poster/networking sessions. The final day of the conference will feature either professional development workshops (topics yet to be finalized) or a tour of innovative research facilities at the University of Manitoba.  The Conference registration fee will include a social event at the award-winning Journey to Churchill exhibit at the Assiniboine Park Zoo. Learn more about this exhibit at www.assiniboineparkzoo.ca. You will have opportunity to purchase additional tickets for those who may be accompanying you to the conference.

For those of you who work in industry, sponsorship opportunities have been devised to allow you to both advertise your organization and send delegates to attend the conference. Booth space will be available at the conference as a means for industry to promote products and/or services or for recruitment purposes. Contact Don Petkau (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) to learn more about the sponsorship opportunities that are available.

The date of the conference has been selected to coincide with Winnipeg’s famous Folklorama festival (www.folklorama.ca), the world’s largest and longest-running multicultural festival. We will facilitate a VIP tour for conference attendees on the Monday evening of the conference (not included in conference registration fee) as an opportunity for additional networking with conference attendees. Furthermore, we hope you might consider spending a couple of extra days in Winnipeg to attend other Folklorama venues, watch talented young athletes during the Canada Summer Games (www.2017canadagames.ca), or visit the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (www.humanrights.ca). Winnipeg’s professional summer sports teams are the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (football) and Winnipeg Goldeyes (baseball) – schedules for the 2017 season are not yet available.

Visit the conference website (www.csbe-scgab.ca/winnipeg2017) for further information. Online registration will be available beginning April 1st with Early Bird rates available until June 15th. Remember to book your hotel by July 1st because the block of rooms being held for the conference will disappear quickly with all of the other activities happening in Winnipeg next summer!
