danny mann2016Greetings!

It is my pleasure to offer this message as your new President. For the past year, my efforts were focused on providing leadership to the Local Arrangements Committee at the University of Manitoba to oversee the 2017 Annual General Meeting which was held last month in Winnipeg.

Hello.

I recently attended our 2017 AGM and Technical Conference held jointly in Winnipeg with the Commission Internationale du Génie Rural (CIGR) Section VI: Postharvet Technology and Process Engineering. Attached is a trip report to fill you in on what I would classify as an excellent conference! Some of you may be receiving it for a second or third time, for which I do sincerely apologize.

The format of the technical conference was commendable. We had plenary and invited speakers (professionals, industry, government, non-academic researchers, etc.) every morning from Monday to Wednesday, followed by technical presentations (primarily graduate students from academic institutions) in the afternoons on each of those days. We also had an engaged undergraduate student presence. What a wonderful event!

You are more than welcome to share the report with your peers in engineering, agriculture, forestry, food processing, medicine, economics, and several other endeavours. It’s amazing to learn just how much we are interconnected, and the opportunities that exist towards exponential integration across disciplines, especially here in Canada! Incidentally, the most recent edition of ASABE’s Resource magazine lauds the benefits associated with bioengineers that are educated in “systems management”.

Hope you enjoy the report!
