The 2019-2020 year will go by quickly, so let’s jump right into it!
Our first CSBE council meeting of 2019-2020 was held during the annual general meeting and conference in Vancouver. The conference sessions were well-attended with sessions ranging from Bioenergy & Bioproducts to Policy & Economics around the theme “Biosystems for Clean Technology and Low Carbon Economy”. I had the pleasure of judging the student oral competition which brought things full circle for me since, the last time Vancouver hosted the CSBE conference in 2008, I was a student in that competition.
Message from the conference chair
It was great to see each and every one of you at CSBE’s 62nd AGM in Vancouver! The CSBE-SCGAB 2019 AGM and Technical Conferences was held from July 14 to 17 in Vancouver, BC. This year’s theme was "Biosystems for Clean Technology and Low Carbon Economy".
This year’s AGM brought together some 125 academic, industry and government participants from across Canada. There were 14 technical sessions on climate change and bioeconomy, global food systems, clean/green energy, food safety & quality, waste water treatment & reuse, greenhouse gas emissions, soil & water management, precision agriculture and biotechnology. Special thanks to our excellent keynote speakers, Dr. Digvir Jayas, Dr. Gary Bull, Vaughan Basset, Maria Wellisch, Dr. Chandra Madramootoo, Dr. Fernando Preto, Dr. Scott Stanners and Dr. Sue Nokes. The conference also provided a valuable networking opportunity and set the stage for further collaboration among academia, industry and government.
We hope to see you all in Quebec City next July for CSBE 2020!
