A Circular Bioeconomy for Canada: Harnessing Agri-Food Innovation to Drive Sustainable Growth, Resilience, and Prosperity

On behalf of the local organizing committee, I am delighted to invite you to the 2026 Annual General Meeting and Technical Conference of the Canadian Society for Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering / Société Canadienne de Génie Agroalimentaire et des Biosystèmes (CSABE/SCGAB), taking place from July 19 to 22, 2026, at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Canada.

The University of Saskatchewan (USask) is one of Canada’s leading research-intensive institutions, home to a medical school and globally recognized for its contributions to water and food security, sustainable agriculture, synchrotron science, and infectious disease research. USask’s agri-food innovation ecosystem is supported by world-class facilities such as the Saskatchewan Structural Sciences Centre and the Canadian Light Source synchrotron, enabling advanced molecular and structural analysis of agricultural products, soil health, food, and biological systems.

USask is also home to the Global Institute for Water Security and the Global Institute for Food Security, which collaborate to address some of society’s most pressing challenges. These efforts are complemented by USask’s partnership in the Global Institute for Energy, Minerals and Society, forming a comprehensive nexus of food, feed, fiber, water, and energy research.

Located in the heart of the Canadian Prairies on Treaty 6 Territory and the traditional homeland of the Métis, Saskatoon is a vibrant city known as “The City of Bridges,” with ten bridges spanning the South Saskatchewan River. The city’s rich cultural diversity is celebrated through numerous annual festivals and events. On behalf of the Local Organizing Committee, it is our pleasure to invite you to the 2027 Annual General Meeting and Technical Conference of the Canadian Society for Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering / Société Canadienne de Génie Agroalimentaire et des Biosystèmes (CSABE/SCGAB), taking place from July 25 to 28, 2027, at the Grenfell Campus of Memorial University in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.

Grenfell Campus, the host of CSABE 2027, located on Newfoundland’s spectacular west coast, offers an inspiring setting where academic excellence, innovation, and the natural beauty of western Newfoundland come together. Grenfell Campus is located in traditional Mi’kmaw territory, and we acknowledge with respect the diverse histories and cultures of the Beothuk, Mi’kmaq, Innu, and Inuit of this province.

We are excited to welcome you to Grenfell Campus for a forward-looking conference centred on the theme “Sustainable Food-Resource Systems – Advancing Agri-Biosystems Engineering Pathways.” Through this theme, CSABE 2027 seeks to advance a circular bioeconomy for Canada by harnessing agri-food innovation to drive sustainable growth, resilience, and prosperity.

The theme embraces the interconnected food–feed–fiber–water–energy nexus and highlights the vital role of agricultural and biosystems engineering in sustainable food production, efficient resource use, climate resilience, and environmental stewardship. The conference will bring together researchers, professionals, industry and government representatives, students, postdoctoral fellows, and other learners to exchange knowledge and innovations across traditional and emerging areas of agri-biosystems engineering. Through technical sessions, keynote presentations, workshops, and networking opportunities, CSABE 2027 will foster collaboration and inspire innovative engineering pathways toward resilient and sustainable food-resource systems in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, and beyond.
