"Engineering Responses to Wicked Problems"
Dear Colleagues and Guests,
On behalf of the local arrangements committee, I am pleased to invite you to the 2024 Annual General Meeting of the Canadian Society for Bioengineering / La Societe Canadienne de Genie Agroalimentaire et de Bioenginierie (CSBE/SCGAB) being held in Winnipeg at the University of Manitoba campus. The University of Manitoba is the province’s only research-intensive post-secondary institution that is home to a wide range of research centres and institutes. The UM campuses are located on original lands of Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene peoples, and on the homeland of the Red River Métis. Winnipeg’s ethnic diversity is notable and is celebrated through many annual festivals. Winnipeg has world-class arts and entertainment, several professional sports teams, and is home to the Human Rights Museum. There are numerous lakes, beaches and wilderness ares within an easy drive of Winnipeg.
We hope that you will choose to join us July 7-10, 2024 in Winnipeg. We are planning an exciting conference that is focused on the theme of “Engineering solutions to wicked problems”. “Wicked” problems are defined as those that are difficult or impossible to solve because of incomplete, contradictory and changing requirements. Engineers in our technical society specialize in engineering problems involving biological systems - such engineering problems often challenge us immensely. We look forward to learning how you are tackling such engineering problems. We are planning some invited speakers who will provide unique perspectives on this theme.
Sincerely,
Danny Mann, Ph.D., P.Eng. (Chair)
